Jigoshop Rich Snippets
There are two ways to install the plugin: through the Worpress admin panel or upload using FTP.
Remember...Jigoshop must be installed before you install the Jigoshop Rich Snippets Plugin
Note...The Jigoshop Rich Snippets Plugin requires Jigoshop 1.3 or greater to function correctly. If you are using an older version, please consider upgrading.
1. Install using Wordpress Admin Panel
To install the plugin, log into your WordPress admin panel and navigate to: Plugins > Add New.
There will be a sub-menu across the top of the page, click upload
Browse to where you saved the plugin zip on your computer and select it. Click install now.
After a few seconds, Wordpress should notify you that the plugin was installed successfully and give you the option of activating the plugin.
Clicking Activate Plugin wil activate the plugin immediatley. Alternativley, you can activate the plugin from the Plugins page.
2. Install using FTP
Wait...If you have no idea what FTP is or how to log into your hosting using FTP then do not attempt this. Instead install the plugin using the Wordpress Admin Panel as explain above.
Watch out!!!...Be careful of permissions and file ownership when uploading through FTP. The plugin implements an autmatic update feature which may fail if the file permissions/owernership are not correct resulting in Wordpress being unable to make changes to the files. Uploading the plugin though the Wordpress dashboard (as outlined in the previous section) will ensure all permissions/ownership are correct.
Login into your hosting using your chosen FTP client and browse to your wordpress installation and go to your plugins folder (usually wp-content/plugins). Unzip the plugin zip you downloaded and upload the unzipped folder
Once uploaded, login to your wordpres admin and go to Plugins > Installed Plugins and activate the plugin.
Note...If you try to activate the plugin when Jigoshop is inactive or deactivate Jigoshop, the plugin will automatically deactivate itself.
At its most basic, snippets are just a few additional lines of information that appear near a result in the search engines results page.
Having some extra information added to your result for a product (such a price, rating, reviews), can greatly increase user confidence in your site, resulting in more click through as well as providing the user with the information that they are looking for more quickly.
The plugin provides you with the ability to assign one of the snippet types to each product. When your page appears in the results page, it will be displayed with extra information defined by the snippet markup. The snippets are:
The generic product snippet will be the snippet of choice in the majority of cases. unless one of the other snippets describes your product more closer, use this.
The creative work snippet can be used for any product that has been created by someone. The book, movie and softare snippets are all children of the creative work snippet.
The book snippet describes a book allows you to specify extra information relating to the book such and author, publisher etc
The movie snippet describes a movie and allows you to specify extra information about the movie such as actors, directors etc
The software snippet describes a piece of software for sale. Extra information includes the operating system required, hardware requirements etc
The Event snippet describes an Event. Use this if you are selling tickets to an event or somthing similar.
Note...As more snippet types become available, we'll update the plugin.
For the full list of fields within each snippet, see the Snippets in Detail part of this documentation.
Once installed, the plugin will add a few extra options to various parts of Jigoshop. Whether these settings show or not (and whether the plugin will output the required snippet markup to you product pages) is determined by the 'Enable Rich Snippets' option in the Products & Inventory tab of Jigoshops settings.
Enabling Rich Snippet will make a new tab appear in the product edit page.
From here, you can set what snippet type will be assigned to this product. Upon selecting a snippet type, some more fields will appear specific to that snippet type allowing you to specify more information. The fields for each snippet type can be seen in the next section.
After selecting the snippet type, you will also be given the option to select how you want the information defined by the snippet to be output.
There are two options to output the information, either after the product description (in the description tab), or in a new tab. Whichever option you select, you will need to specify a title for the information. If the information is being output after the description, the output title will be used as a sub heading, and if the information is being output in a new tab, the output title will be used as the title of the new tab.
Note...The reason for outputting the information as opposed having it hidden is because the search engines (Google in particular) have stated it is the incorrect way of implementing rich snippets and there is a risk that they may penalise your site for having hidden content.
Snippets in Detail
Each snippet type has a number of additional fields that can be used to describe the product further as well as defining specific peices of information for the search engines. An overview of each snippet type, and the fields it contains is given below.
Note...The fields shown by the plugin are only extra fields whose information is not held by Jigoshop by default. All snippets have fields for product name, description, price, image and reviews. Since Jigoshop already holds this information, there is no need to re-define it in the Rich Snippets plugin. The plugin will automatically populate these fields when needed.
Note...Not all fields need to be filled in. If you do not have any data for any of the fields, simply leave it blank. Empty fields will not be output.

Google has provided a useful tool that will allow you to test a page of your site to see how the result will look with rich snippet enabled. The tool can be found at http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets. Simply enter the URL of the page you want to test and click preview.
To make things a little easier, the plugin includes a link in each product edit page, after all of the snippet fields that will automatically take you to the testing tool with your product page URL prepopulated.
